Voordat ik het wist, zat mijn eerste maand bij Progress er al weer op. Het is een behoorlijke omslag als je eerst gewend bent twee of drie dagen in de week in de collegebanken te zitten en vervolgens vijf dagen in de week op kantoor zit. Een &#8220;grote mensen baan&#8221;, zo luidt de term onder mijn leeftijdsgenoten.\u00a0Maar wat houdt die eerste grote mensen baan in de PR dan in?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Een jaar geleden zat ik rond deze tijd van het jaar met mijn neus in de boeken hard te blokken om het semester succesvol af te sluiten. Mijn eerste maand hier was dan ook een\u00a0<em>reality check<\/em>: ik had er jarenlang voor geoefend, nu was het tijd om echt aan de slag te gaan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"https:\/\/progresscommunications.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/CheeseWorks-0126-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"Twee mensen in gesprek tijdens een persevenement\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>Ik herken echter weinig van wat ik ooit tijdens mijn studie heb geleerd in mijn dagelijkse werkzaamheden.\u00a0Het is net\u00a0een black-out: al die jaren van het uit je hoofd leren van de\u00a0<em>Uses and Gratification<\/em>s theorie en hoe je ook alweer een multivariate regressieanalyse draait in SPSS lijken bijzonder ver te zoeken in de dagelijkse praktijk. In plaats daarvan ben ik bezig met het monitoren van nieuws, het in elkaar zetten van briefings, nieuwsbrieven\u00a0en\u00a0<em>coverage reports<\/em>, het inpakken van\u00a0<em>press kits<\/em>\u00a0en was ik onlangs ook aanwezig bij het <a href=\"blog\/microsoft\/kerst-in-oktober\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft kerstevent<\/a> om alles in goede banen te leiden.<\/p>\n<p>Waar ik op school altijd de hipste straattaal moest bijbenen van mijzelf om maar niet hopeloos ouderwets over te komen, merk ik dat ik hier moet bijbenen met bepaalde professionele termen om zakelijk goed voor de dag te komen. Inmiddels ben ik al bijna helemaal thuis in de terminologie van zowel Progress als klanten. Zo heb ik onlangs nog verschillende \u201cdecks\u201d gecre\u00eberd en heb ik bij deze mijn eerste \u201cWHOB\u201d (Wat houdt ons bezig) geschreven.<\/p>\n<p>Ik vind het prima om me aan te passen en het bevalt me hier hartstikke goed.
