How the Amsterdam Light Festival brightened the dark days

A look back at the Amsterdam Light Festival: team outings, meeting technology journalists and putting the Lumia 830's low-light photography in the spotlight.

In December, we drive to the office in darkness and return home in the same darkness that evening. A rather gloomy prospect. Thanks to our refurbished office, we still get plenty of daylight at Progress. For those working behind shaded windows, however, there is fortunately the annual Amsterdam Light Festival.

Through Progress, I had the opportunity to “enjoy” this spectacle of light from a canal boat not once, but twice in quick succession. I boarded full of enthusiasm, then became so absorbed in the atmosphere that I completely missed half the illuminated artworks. Both trips were certainly enjoyable, though.

On the first cruise, I was with the entire LVT Group. I was no longer the newest face in the office, and it was fantastic to go out with everyone together. Seeing colleagues outside work from time to time helps you get to know them better.

The second cruise brought a very different group: technology and gadget journalists. Together with Microsoft Devices, we organised an event on 16 December 2014 around the Amsterdam Light Festival and the Lumia 830. Why were they such a good combination? The Lumia 830 takes excellent photographs in low light.

This was the first event I helped coordinate, working with Eventive. Fortunately, everyone enjoyed the cruise, and the Lumia 830 made a good impression.

Having so many enjoyable experiences in just my first three months here feels like a privilege. I have seen my colleagues in a different light and helped put the Lumia 830 in the spotlight. I am already looking forward to next year.
