Social media and PR go hand in hand

Managing social channels and sharing expertise across the Plexus network show how closely social media and public relations are connected.

Social media is an integral part of our PR toolkit. It allows everyone to share their experiences publicly and gives brands a way to start conversations with customers and potential customers.

For example, we manage social channels for Nokia Netherlands and Nokia Belgium, including their Twitter and Facebook pages. Having been their PR agency for years, we know both Nokia and its sector inside out. Because we understand what interests journalists and consumers, we can manage and provide content for Nokia’s social channels effectively.

Workshop

We also enjoy sharing our knowledge and expertise with other companies. A colleague from Spain joined us for social media training. Since 2010, Progress Communications has been part of PLEXUS PR Group, a global network of agencies working in PR, communications, social media and online marketing. The United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Denmark and, of course, the Benelux are represented. One advantage of this kind of partnership is that we can exchange knowledge with other agencies without being direct competitors. It is also instructive to see what happens in other countries and what works in each local market.

At our last meeting, Madrid-based agency Intro Ibérica approached us. It was seeing growing demand for social media from clients but did not yet have the expertise in-house. Spain had fewer social media specialists than Belgium, for example. Facebook was gaining ground, and the agency wanted to know how to make the most of it for its clients. We regularly deliver this kind of training in the Benelux, but every workshop is tailored. That is why we researched the local market before delivering the training in Spain.
